Guyana is a nature-lover’s paradise. There are many options to see wildlife and natural fauna in their natural habitat. There are therefore not many animal parks. Can’t get out of Georgetown? Here are some options places in the capital to see native flora and fauna:
National ZOO
Guyana has one main zoo - Guyana Zoological Park - that is government-run and located in Georgetown. It houses a collection of native animals including Harpy eagles, manatees, jaguars, macaws that inhabit the reaches of the country. Some locals choose to have native animals as pets. Botanical Gardens
Adjoining the National Zoo, the botanical gardens showcase native flora. The ‘kissing bridge’ was a popular photo location for couples getting married.
Promenade Gardens:
A remnant of Guyana’s colonial history, the Promenade Gardens are a reminder of the reign of Queen Victoria with a selection of native flora, walking paths and a band stand.
Depending on the weather, consider visiting a museum or taking part in other leisure-time activities.
